Hi there, I’m having trouble with getting the right setup for my gear… help would be appreciated!
I want to control the tempo (midi clock) of my AN1X with the Motif XS.
In the utility screen (Control/ Midi) I’ve changed some parameters: sending midi clock out: on (yes!).
The AN1X does recieve MIDI messages (AN1X sounds when playing the XS - don’t want that) - but the tempo of the arps/sequencer patterns does not sync with the arp on the XS (and tempo changes on the XS do not affect the arp speed on the AN1X). What do I do wrong or .... did I miss something? To give you an idea of what I want to achieve/ the total setup: the AN1X is used as a keyboard for controlling an analogue synth (MS20 mini) and for sending the arps/ sequencer patterns to the MS20. I want the MS20, playing a sequencer pattern of the AN1X (this part works), to play in sync (same tempo) as the XS, so I can combine a drum arp (XS in voice mode) with an arp pattern or seq pattern of the AN1X (not hearing the sound of the AN1X, but the MS20 mini - which is simply achieved by not connecting the output of the AN1X to the mixer (putting local ‘of’ would stop transmitting the arp pattern to the MS20 mini). Hope someone can help me out, thanks! Michiel |

To sync the AN1X to the XS set the AN1X Step Sequencer to MIDI. Set the Rotary knob to Voice Common, decrease Tempo to one click below 40. The AN1X should not sound from the XS with Transmit Channel set to Off. Or at best set the AN1X receive channel to any other than what the XS is transmitting on. This may require matching the device numbers of the two units to allow the System Message (clock) to get through. I’ll set it up here and see what develops. Stone |

Wow. I’ve always loved the AN1X but never midied it to a Motif. I’ve got some serious frequency disbursement going on here. I could break Phil Spector out with my own wall of sound. The unit lines up tight with all relevant XS controllers responding. Much easier from the XS controlling the AN. Anyway I achieved what you wished as described with no need to match device numbers. I left the AN1X set to midi channel 1 and set the XS transmit to off in Voice Utility mode. Each board played only from its respective keybed, while the clock still sent data via midi to the AN which in turn has its tempo controlled by the XS. This also worked by setting the XS Transmit channel to 2 etc. I don’t know how deep your programs are but you’ll likely need to create and store your set ups to all affected machines. Stone |

Thanks for your help, Stone, things worked out fine! Had to remember that for each ‘voice’ (with arp) on the AN1X you need to set the tempo to MIDI. Local has to be ‘on’ (otherwise the AN1X will not send the arps and seq patterns to the MS20 mini) but the trick here was to change the midi transmit channel of the AN1X (hitting the keys on the AN1X to change chords of the arp is not heard through the output of the MS20 mini - so now we’re laughing. Storing the settings is not a big thing, the setup is quit simple, just the XS playing a drum arp or a performance, midi clock out to the AN1X which sends out arp/seq patterns to the MS20 mini. Add some nice pads from my good old SY77 and we’re laughing big time! : ) Will certainly try using the XS as controller for the AN1X, sounds like great fun too! |
