I looked through the forums and the Motif XS Manual: I have a compatible flash drive, I am loading X0A all files into my XS just fine..I select the Playkeyz 80s I all file I want to load and select “Load”, “Are you sure”, “Yes” and it loads. Then I go through Voice by Voice/Performance by Performance to determine the Voices/Performances I want to keep on my Motif XS on a permanent basis..for each sound that I want to permanently save I am hitting “Store”, I use the toggle wheel and arrow keys to select User1/User2/User3, a sub-category (A, B, C...)and then a number. I hit “Enter” and then “Yes” and the screen says it is saving it into memory. I am able to scroll/click around and see the different Voices/Performances I am saving. Then I move on and load the all file for Playkeyz 80s II, then hit Voice/Performance to repeat the process, but everything I had previously saved from Playkeyz 80s I is gone now. I am getting frustrated with my new toy! Do I need to get the software for my PC to organize all of the Voices/Performances, save them as new custom all files onto my flash drive and then save them on my Motif? I want to be able to pick only the sounds that I need for live performance from those Playkeyz collections and have them for permanent use. Hope this makes sense. I have experimented and played around with my Motif for several days now and my eyes are now hurting. I thought the point of modern day workstations was to make playing live simpler - to allow us musicians to work smarter, not harder! Thanks and Happy New Year! |

I am not familiar with the specific Libraries you are LOADING, but I am going to guess that you are LOADING the second one into the machine as an ALL file...which of course overwrites ALL of your USER data that you have set up with the first Library...which you also LOADED as an ALL file! What you need to do is NOT LOAD the Libraries as ALL Files. Instead, LOAD them as single BANK files (128 VOICES is a single BANK). Follow the steps of This Article. By targeting the specific single BANK of VOICES for each Library, you will not be overwriting your LOAD work each time with a new ALL File! |

Mayhle, Thanks so much for the info, it helped!! Is the John Melas editor software a good way to organize Voices and Performances for the Motif XS? Will it open my Playkeyz 80s files, allow me to organize Patches and Voices, and then save collections I have designed as “All Files” for example that I could put on a flash drive and then put on my XS? I am looking for a way I can get all of my patches/voices/performances together in one place on a computer screen for example, so that I could put together all needed sounds in the order of the setlist for each and every gig. I would want to create collections for example like:
August 21 Gig

John Melas has excellent tools for exactly the type activity you outlined. You don’t need all of the Editors he produces to organize your BANKS and Libraries...only his Total Librarian...but I will definitely recommend that you buy his whole suite of software. You will undoubtedly (in the future) find use for all of it, and you will get a much better price as a bundle than purchasing it piecemeal. Actually, the way Total Librarian works is even simpler than you imagine. Once you have organized VOICES, PERFORMANCES, PATTERNS, SONGS, and MASTERS (as you choose or need to do), you can transmit these custom libraries directly into your machine from your computer...no USB thumb drive required. Of course, if you prefer to “take it with you”...to your gigs without the need for a computer for example...you certainly have the option of placing your custom libraries (as ALL files of the type you desire) on your thumb drive(s), and LOADING them into your machine from there. |
