Is there anyone who knows how or where to get the midnam files for the Motif XF8 so I can select the patch lists from the computer in Digital Performer 7 and Pro Tools.  Yamaha in Japan had one for my XS8 but not for the XF.  I know you can program one from scratch in Cherry Picker, but I’ve never done it and it looks a little complicated.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

I’m not using DP or PT, but…

Since the Preset banks of the XS and XF are the same, it would seem that the midnam for the XS should work for the XF (except for coverage of the USER 1 bank).

See the following thread, in particular the post from gblack:

A good source of midnams:

I didn’t know the presets of the XS and the XF are exactly the same.  I thought they added a lot of new patches including upgrading the sound quality of the patches from the XS.

Even if the sample quality and other aspects were improved on the XF versus the XS, the preset Voice locations are the same. The 128 new “patches” (Voices) in the XF are in the USER 1 bank only.

Compare the XF Data List Voices with those of the XS:

Wow!  You are a guru!!  That is great information.  I wonder why the Yamaha tech I talked to on the phone couldn’t have told me that.

Much Appreciated!!

You’re welcome, but really it’s pretty common knowledge. I don’t know why the Yamaha tech didn’t tell you—perhaps if you were asking about a midnam, somehow that might not have lead in the right direction.
