I have a gig tonight and I plan on bringing my MOTIF, but the Bass player isn’t going to be able to show up. I need to use my left hand to cover the bass line.

I want to put “Stand-Up Bass” in the left hand, transposed an octave up, and “Jazz Piano” in the right hand, in its regular key.

I know I have to use the Master and/or Perform functions, just not exactly sure how. The Manual isn’t helping me.

I got as far as doing Master -> Zone Edit on, and Zone 1 is +1 octave. How do I assign individual voices to each zone?

Thanks.

Re: Master -> Dual Voices | Need help fast gig tonight

Edan,

Assuming that you are using only the Motif’s internal voices to play the Jazz Piano and Bass sounds, Performance mode might be more appropriate for your needs.

To set up a Performance as you suggested:[list]First Initialize a Performance:

[*]Press [PERFORMANCE]
[*]Press [JOB]
[*]Press [F1] INIT
[*]Press [ENTER]
[*]Press [INC/YES]

Next, set up the Performance:

[*]Press [PERFORMANCE
[*]Press [EDIT]
[*]Press [COMMON] to select Performance Common Edit mode
[*]Press [F1] GENERAL
[*]Press [SF1] NAME
[*]Specify a name for your new Performance

[*]Press [1] to move to Performance Part Edit mode
[*]Press [F1] VOICE
[*]Press [SF1] VOICE
[*]Select the Voices for Part 1 and Part 2.

[*]Press [SF3] LIMIT
[*]Set the Note Limits for the two parts. Assuming you want to split the Keyboard evenly around Middle C, you would set the Note Limits for the two parts as follows:

- Bass:  NoteLimitH = B3, NoteLimitL = C-2
- Piano: NoteLimitH = G8. NoteLimitL = C4

[*]Press [F4] TONE
[*]Press [SF1] TUNE
[*]Set the NoteShift for the Bass Part = +12 semitones (= 1 octave).

[*]Press [F5] RCV SW
[*]If [SF5] shows [1PART] press [SF5]
[*]Press the part number of the Bass part ([1] or [2] depending on how you assinged them
[*]From this dialog, you can set which MIDI controllers you want the Bass part to respond to… I’m guessing that you won’t want it to respond to the Sustain pedal while you will want the Piano to respond to it… /forums/images/icons/cool.gif alt=

Finally, store your Performance:

[*]Press [Store]
[*]Specify the location in the Performance bank to store your newly created performance.
Press [ENTER][/list:u]Now to play using this Performance you simply go to Performance mode and select the Performance desired.

Regards,

Brad Weber

I was going to add, I think there’s a setup like that in the standard user bank anyway, albeit with a ride cymbal . . .

Cheers

Hi,
I’m new here but you are talking about the ES and not the regular Motif , because I have the ES7
Thanks

The post above applies to the Motif ES as well as the Motif classic.

Hi
When you modify a performance or a voice and save it, will this remain after turning the Motif ES off and restrarting it again.

Thank you

Re: Master -> Dual Voices | Need help fast gig ton

Performances are stored in non-volatile memory and therefore will be present after power cycling the instrument. User voices (so long as they are based on internal samples - i.e. so long as you did not load or record samples to create these voices) are also stored in non-volatile memory.

In either case, make sure to STORE your performances or voices prior to either changing programs or modes or turning off the instrument.

Re: Master -> Dual Voices | Need help fast gig ton

Actually, that is only partially right for a Motif Classic.

As a matter of fact, I’ve been trying to figure this out for a while now.  The Motif Classic does not have the “Tone” section while editing a performance.  What’s the appropriate method for changing the octave/pitch of a part in a performance for a Motif Classic?

Graphic from the Motif:

http://files.keyfax.com/forums/user-files/434075-MotifPerf.JPG

Remember there are two levels of EDIT: COMMON and PART
Common parameters are applied to the entire Performance:
Press [EDIT]
Press [COMMON] a/k/a the DrumKits/Favorites button

But to get to the individual PART Edit paramters:
Press [EDIT]
Press Track Select [1], [2], [3], or [4] to view PART parameters

The top line of the screen always indicates “WHERE” you are: for example: PERF > Part 01 would indicate you are in PERFORMANCE mode editing PART number 1.
