Hey, my S90 is on my desk at the moment, which leaves me with no deskspace. I’m going into Uni so I’ll be needing that desk. I’ll put the S90 on an X stand in my room. What do you recommend? I notice there might be mounting bolt holes in the bottom of the S90, is this correct? Is there, then, a special stand that fixes the S90 to it in this way?

I live in Sydney, and usually go to these music stores:

http://www.allansmusic.com.au
http://www.venuemusic.com.au

and I can go to http://www.turramusic.com.au ( I got the S90 from there)

So...Qwik-Lok or whatever? double brace? special Yamaha S90 stand??

Thanks for any ideas

-Matt

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

ok I’ll look for the “WS550 or 560”. I read other threads on stands.

As a side-question what are the different types of stands?

X
Z
4-leg table sort of things?

Z stands look harder to sit in front of than X stands, and the other thread said X stands got in the way of legs.

Also the Zs dont look as stable as X’s, yet they say Z are more stable than Xs.

Looks like I’ll have to go out to the music shop and push a few keyboards around, but untill then, and ideas?

Matt

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

I just made sure that the stand I got was rated to hold at least twice the weight of the S90. I think it’s rated for 50Kg. Its double braced and i’ve no idea what its called, but if I had to name it I would sure call it an “X” stand ‘coz that’s what it looks like when its unfolded! it’s got no bolts or anything, but i have it against the wall so no scare about it falling over. It’s made by Ashton and I got it from Allans (melbourne)…

hope it helps!

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

The advantage of the X types of stands are that if you get the right one you can easily add a second tier for when you blokes get a second board. I’ve not seen this for a Z stand.

You must get a double braced stand though for the S90, since a single braced will not manage the weight.

Do you get quick-lok stuff over there?

Cheers

Nice, some info filtering in.

Yep, we get Quik Lok.

Thanks for that Wellie.

And Re: the “Boltholes”, that returned the equivalent of blank faces in my initial post: I had another look and I’m completely wrong. They’re just bolts going inside. Sorry for the confusion.  /forums/images/icons/blush.gif alt=

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

I had a look at some Quik Lok products on the site. there’s one that goes up to 97cm high, but at that height it’s 30cm wide. That’s no good. Is that a small stand or is that a nominal size stand for an 88 key synth (and one doesnt use it at 97cm...)? I reckon I’d like a larger one anyhow…

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

At that width it can be a little too wobbly especially with an 88 note beastie on it.
The next setting down works fine though if you are average height, say 5’10” ish and playing whilst standing

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

I’m 6’2” or thereabouts. I agree 30cm is inadequate. Does anyone know of a simply Larger X stand? I guess then One is limited to a generally higher height because on a lower setting it will be too wide to hold the board.

What do you guys think of this one? Not sure about availability

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

Will it go high enough?

It doesn’t take a second tier, is this likely to be a problem?

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

92cm....probably as high as the X stand’s second highest setting.

No going to be a problem for a while. But it says it does allow an optional second tier (?)…

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

Cool. It certainly seems to offer greater width which would give better stability. Having said that, I regularly use a Roland A90 on an X type stand on its second setting and that with a Mo 7 on the second tier - it works fine.

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

OK thanks. I think I’ve got what I need. Just one of those difficult decisions between X stand and the Monolith. Perhaps I’ll look at weight, etc. It also makes a large difference whether this is available in Australia, and price! I forgot about price!

I see there are a few different models for double brace X stands. What model number is yours?

Thanks for your help Wellie and guys

Re: Stand for S90 (available in Australia)

I think mine was the QL 641, which is essentially the same as the 640 but supplied with the second tier risers.

THere’s also another series whose number I don’t recall but whose risers screw on and are held in place by a toothed mechanism. This stand also has an extended base bar to give greater stability - it might be the 746.

You can obviously view them all by going to http://www.quiklok.com.
