I just loaded a piano sample into the Motif ES8. I love the sound. In “Voice Mode” it’s:  USR1:006 (A06) - sounds great.

Now how do I load it into “Song Mode and/or Pattern Mode”, so I can actually use it in recording?

It seems to be in the USR1 :006 Bank in “Song Mode”, but it is no way the sound quality as it is in “Voice Mode”. It’s dull compared to the one in the “Voice Mode”.

Help will be greatly appreciated. I think I found the piano sample I’ll be using from now on (if I can figure it out).

Thanks, John

Re: Help!! Saving A “Voice Mode” sound - To Song Mode

John,

Have you read Bad_Mister’s Copying Voice Data with Arpeggios to a Performance or Mix article from the Motif ES Behind the Manual ? This article describes how to copy not only arpeggio data but also the effects settings of voices into a song or pattern mix (or performance).

Regards,

Re: Help!! Saving A “Voice Mode” sound - To Song Mode

Thanks Brad. I did read the entire manual when I first bought the ES8. I’ll check it out.

So you think it’s only the fx settings that make the difference?

Thanks, John

Re: Help!! Saving A “Voice Mode” sound - To Song Mode

One last question Brad;

When I figure this out and save the settings to song mode/ pattern mode/performance mode, will I have to redo these settings every time I fire the Motif up?

I know I’ll have to reload the sample every time, but will the fx settings be saved permanately to the location I choose?

Re: Help!! Saving A “Voice Mode” sound - To Song Mode

Songs and their mixes (including the effects settings) are saved in volatile memory (meaning they are lost on power down). Therefore, you must save these to external mass storage and then reload them on power up. If you save an ALL file, you can setup the Motif ES to automatically load this file on power up. For more information, see Saving an Autoload ALL file and setting up Autoload (Motif ES) .

Just curious, what is that great piano sample you are talking about?
Something the rest of us should be aware about?

It’s the Willian Coakley Perfect Piano:  http://www.williamcoakley.com/

It’s a dream in “Voice Mode”. As soon as I can figure this out, I’ll post one of my piano solos.

Re: Help!! Saving A “Voice Mode” sound - To Song Mode

I have to admit the demos sound very good, as they always do. However, there is a difference. There’s also long notes and slow playing in demos and even those sound very good.

Could this be THE Piano many Motif users have been waiting for? How come I’ve not heard about it before? (Keyfax censorship propably) /forums/images/icons/wink.gif alt=

Please, give us a mini review as soon as possible.

Re: Help!! Saving A “Voice Mode” sound - To Song Mode

I’m posting the first sample piano track in William Coakley’s Perfect Piano Series. I haven’t auditioned all of the piano samples yet. This is the first one. I have to work with the EQ on the Mackie yet (I zero’d across the board).

I also included the ES8 piano on the same track for cross reference.

Thanks again Brad!

I probably would have missed this section by the title “Saving Voice Data with Arpeggios”. The “arpeggios” in the title would have thrown me off.

Wow, wish I could play like that /forums/images/icons/smile.gif alt= Beautyfull song too.

The piano sample sounds pretty good.
It sounds like there is some ambience and compression.
Did you add them or was them in samples?
Would you say that sample set is worth the money (over $250)?

Re: Help!! Saving A “Voice Mode” sound - To Song Mode

Thanks Tuquo!

I’d say it’s worth it (at least for a pianist). The sample will get better as I keep working on it.

I didn’t add any extra compression or reverb. It’s straight out of the box. I wasn’t sure where to set the EQ on the Mackie board though.

Best, John
