I am using a PLG100VH in a MOES7 and have a question on the NRPN messages used to control the harmony.  When I create NRPN messages (using MIDI channel 16) on the MOES sequencer to turn the harmony mute control on or off the messages are like this:

Harmony Mute On:
LSB:  0 Data=0
MSB: 0 Data=127 (actually anything between 64-127 but I use 127)

Harmony Mute Off:
LSB:  0 Data=0
MSB: 0 Data=0

When I save this song file as a SMF and then read it into Sonar this same data looks like this:

Harmony Mute On:
LSB:  0 Data=0
MSB: 0 Data=16256

Harmony Mute Off:
LSB:  0 Data=0
MSB: 0 Data=0

Why is the data value changed on the Mute On message?  It seems like if I want to go the other way and create these same NRPN messages in Sonar and transfer to the MOES, I need to use the higher data value for the Mute On.  Is this right and if so why?

Thanks for bearing with me on this and thanks in advance for the help.

Re: PLG100VH harmony control- Need some Guru advice

Data = 16256 is not a value that is possible for the Data Byte in this type of message.

Your best bet is to contact Cakewalk and have them explain that one.

The data byte can be any value 00-7F (that’s 0-127)… a data byte of 16256 is simply not possible. Perhaps they are using some kind of short hand for NRPNs - it is a good question for Cakewalk to answer.

NRPNs use cc099 (MSB) and cc098 (LSB)

Thanks Bad.  I’ll give that a try.

One quick question back at you though.  If I use CC messages, is there a particular order they need to be sent?  In other words, do you send the LSB then the MSB or the other way around?
