Well, here’s my first attempt at some Reggae/Rocksteady
groove, mixed with a little contemporary (jazz)?
I’m a huge fan of the downbeat, I hope my Mo Bro & Sis who frequent this forum, who are from the beautiful island of Jamaica would enjoy it.

Let me know if I have to change something!

Thanks!

Re: Island Dancer

hi

i like it no doubt about it’s brilliance. One thing though ...

intro is way too long, takes forever to start. And this feels more of an “island chill out” then “island Dancer”

Very relaxing tune.

thanks for sharing

Re: Island Dancer

Yo Mix, you’ve done it again, tight jam for sure.
I really like those drums, but can’t get to how you manage to do those rolls on them, for I struggle with that part.
I might have to get me one of those Roland synth sets and play them myself. LOL

Thanks for sharing your work.

Re: Island Dancer

it’s just my personal taste on reggae but this song is soooo
smooth i aint complaining....

Re: Island Dancer

Hi TFM, I use the Korg PadKontrol along with superior drummer.
The pads are velocity sensitive, this is a awsome piece of equipment, not only can you play drum software with it, you can trigger any keyboard or sound module you have at your disposal.
Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Island Dancer

Hi kyle, this patricular track leans more towards the (Rocksteady) feel than the reggae type of beat.
actually Rocksteady is the predecessor of raggae, but most of the time when you mention Rocksteady, people go huh? (LOL)
Reggae has a more aggressive downbeat, which I’m planning to do a more true raggae track, which I’m excited about.
Thank you for the response, glad you like it!

Re: Island Dancer

Hey Mix, that explains the excellent snare and tom rolls.
I have Trigger finger, and another drum machine, but NEVER got use to it, so they collect dust on the table..LOL
I’m hoping this week to drop my first track of this year, which have vocals.

Man, I still have not heard your voice..LOL
I know I was suppose to call, but so were YOU...lol
At least we hala on the net huh?

Re: Island Dancer

I’ve been around. Haven’t really had a lot of time to listen to tracks here. So I try to take one day out the week and just listen to the top 10 or 15 or so (possibly more). I’ve just been spending time with the family, working, networking. I’ve been engineering some sessions (with the new ProTools 8, you have to get it!!!). I’ve been praying hard about these 2 (what seems to be decent) publishing deals I’ve been offered. So a lot of things seem to be going right for me in this economy. I haven’t gotten fired. Even got a little bit of a raise.

But anyways, sure shoot me an e-mail. I look forward to seeing what you have!…

Re: Island Dancer

Hey TFM, SD also comes with midi drum loops which you can manipulate or use them as they are.
I like to tweak my own drum tracks so they can fit my song, instead of being confined to somebody’s else ideal (LOL).
I also test drove the trigger finger before purchasing the padkontrol, and it was a better choice for me!

You never left your # (LOL).

Re: Island Dancer

LOL, DF I’m glad that everything is going well with you and your family, and you still have your job at Nat-Geo (LOL).
I thought you had signed that multi-million dollar recording deal LOL.
I have Pro Tools 8, but have’nt installed it yet, I’m hearing really good things about it’s improvements.

That’s right, take your time with that publishing deal, until it settles peacefully in your spirit! (you know what I’m talking about). Wait for His answer!
