Re: miscellaneous file?

A “miscellaneous file type” is basically what is says, not a regularly categorised file.  So a .doc may be a well-known file, but, say. a .W7A (the Motif ES designation for an All File) is not so well known to a search or categorising program, so it comes under the list of miscellaneous.

So I would suspect that you have isolated the directory containing your files (newdir is the default directory created by the Motif) but the files inside are not immediately recognised so they are categorised “miscellaneous”.  So if you can, or have, recovered your directory, then I would assume that your Motif files are intact in there and you can reload them.  I don’t know the recovery program you are using, but I would assume that it cannot actually read a Motif file, even though it may be there intact.

Perhaps someone else (Joop?) may be of more help.

Peter

Re: miscellaneous file?

P.S.: the un-delete programs I know of all work on MSDOS (FAT)
volumes and seem to recover any not-overwritten (!!!) file,
but can recover all but 1 (one) letter of the filename.

Please get yourself accustomed to the regular YAMAHA filename extensions soon.

Re: miscellaneous file?

So you got 2 files. What size?

Do you remember what you saved? (ALL, ALLVoice, ALLSong ...)

Re: miscellaneous file?

An ALL save on an ES would produce 2 files:

YOU_NAME_IT.W7A approx. size 795000-900000 if without samples

and

YOU_NAME_IT.W8A of about 16900 bytes.

If you see that kind of sizes, you could rename them accordingly.
Then the ES will try to accept them.

Re: miscellaneous file?

How did you try to open those files? On the PC?
You should not put the volume in the Motif before you see 2
files with some size on the PC.

Re: miscellaneous file?

P.S.: a quick format only erases the index.
If you did a thorough or complete format your data is gone ...............
