I purchased a Yamaha MO6 and it came with Cubase LE software. I am having a hell of a time trying to set it up to make music through USB. What Device do I use to install for the Device Manager? Please help.

Thank you
Matt

Re: MIDI Device Manager

OK, you need to install the USB Midi driver which, if you don’t already have it on supplied disks, can be found at http://www.yamahasynth.com - look for the appropriate generic USB Midi driver for your OS (ie Mac, or Windows, XP or Vista)

Once that is properly installed, Cubase should be able to see it. (Note, you would need to switch on the MO before activating Cubase and not the other way around)

Hope this gets you going - post back if you need further assistance, or if I totally misread your question /forums/images/icons/smile.gif alt=

Re: MIDI Device Manager

Thanks for posting.

The part that I am talking about is going to Devices on the tool bar, click on MIDI Device Manager, click on Install Device, but this is where I have trouble because the Yamaha MO6 is not listed here so I don’t know how to get it installed so that Cubase recognizes the MO when I’m trying to record.

Please let me know if you know anything about this.

Thank you,
Matt

Re: MIDI Device Manager

Go here:

http://www.motifator.com/mart/mainframe.htm

click on ‘FIles/Software’ in the menu at left and get

http://www.yamaha-europe.com/yamaha_europe/download/products/10_musical_instruments/synthesizer/synthesizer/MOTIF6/Motif_Sequencer_Kit.zip

which is listed under ‘Cubase’ as

“Motif 6,7,8 Sequencer Kit for Cubase SX and Logic”
....should be instructions in the zip file.

Also

http://files.keyfax.com/download/CubaseScript.ZIP

and

http://files.keyfax.com/download/patchname.txt

listed as:

“Download Cubase script file patch list for Motif
and
“Download Nate’s organized patch list”

might be of use.

Good luck

B

Re: MIDI Device Manager

Do have a look at the stuff that Boulez lists.

But, to make music through USB you do not need a ‘listed’ device in the MIDI devices folder!!!!

You just need the USB driver installed.
The MIDI devices adds to the basic midi functionality by allowing you to install and setup patch scripts and so on so that you can select your patches by name rather than by number (MSB, LSB)

If you have the USB driver installed, then you should be able to get midi information from the MO to Cubase and back from Cubase to the MO.

Please confirm that you have this and that it is working.

Cheers
