I came across this video the other day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GViXkvO-OKM and became totally enamored with the sound.  I’ve been trying to learn a bit about sound programming so I thought I would try and emulate (ok copy) this one on my XS8.  But I haven’t really gotten anything that comes close in a few tries.  I was hoping one of the more knowledgeable and experienced folks here might give me a little nudge.

My strategy was, well, this is a Moog Little Phatty.  The underlying waves are probably sawtooth with some sort of modulation happening and interesting envelopes.  Maybe sync on the mod wheel?  So, I dialed up a couple of saw waves in a voice.  Made them Phat by putting one down an octave with some slight detuning.  And played around with the filter and amp envelopes quite a bit.

Nothing I’ve come up with is anywhere near what I hear.  I always end up with something that sounds more like an organ.  This sound to me is more like an electric guitar.  But synthy.  It has this edge to it.  Almost like a honking, reedy sound.

I found a few of the “sync” waves and played a bit with them, Trying to maybe blend one of those in to see if that was the key.  But that didn’t really come close either.  I’ve discovered quite a few interesting sounds along the way.  And I think I’m learning a bit.  But, does anyone have any tips on this particular sound?
