Hello all,

I have a rather odd question I’m hoping someone can help with. I have an old Yamaha G10 MIDI guitar controller which includes built-in guitar-friendly presets for the TX802 and the TX81Z. I just bought the PLG150DX for my S90 and I’m hoping to somehow be able to use those sounds.

I know that the architecture of those two synths is different from the regular 6 operator sine wave structure of the DX7 family, but I’m wondering if there’s a “translation” utility available or some other way to make it work.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Re: TX802 or TX81Z SysEx with PLG-150

As far as I know, there is possibility to load any FM compatible file in SysEx format to National Instruments FM8 software. It could be found on internet a complete FM Megapack (sounds from all FM synths including tone generators!!) converted to FM8. I’ve attached in zip file sysex files for TX81Z from “Megapack”. Maybe you could try to load it to plg150dx. I’ve recently obtained DX plug-in and it has incredible sounds, but I didn’t have enough time to try to load other sounds yet. When I did it, I will share information at this forum.

I’ve forgot to attach files in my previous post.

Re: TX802 or TX81Z SysEx with PLG-150

You would likely have success loading the TX802 Voice data (as opposed to the TX81Z). The TX802 was also a six operator FM synthesizer and it shares the same VOICE format as the PLG150-DX. So individual Voice data will be compatible with the PLG150-DX (no doubt)… Performances and setups are quite another thing.

The 802 was in effect multiple FM synth engines… s it provided multi-timbral operation. Each PLG150-DX board is a single part board.

G10 wow… As I recall the G10 came equipped with sounds that setup the TX units by duplicating the Voices data in each multi-timbral Part and set each PART as Mono (optimum for play like a guitar - as each string supports only one note)… As you can see you would need six PLG150-DXs in order to properly translate most of the TX802 setups… However, the Voice data from the 802 should load into the PLG150-DX bank 035/000 directly… it will accept sounds 1-32 in the first dump, and then you can target locations 33-64 in the second.

I doubt if the 81Z sounds (4 operator) will be translated to the PLG150-DX.

I was just coming here to ask the exact same thing about the TX81Z and the DS-55.
Does anyone know if you can load the presets in these machines up on a PLG-150 board?  If so then it would solve all my problems and save me taking a laptop on stage!
