Re: Are there any voices/patches for a talkbox on M06?
When you say would “support a talkbox or vocoder” we assume you mean that you could feed into such a device. You don’t really need to download any special Voices. The richer the Voice is in harmonics the more likely a candidate it is for successfully working with an external processor like a talkbox or vocoder.
Harmonics are, technically speaking, whole integer multiples of the fundamental pitch (or frequency). The richer a sound is in harmonics - that is, the more harmonics that are audible in the particular sound - the more data there is for the talkbox or vocoder to work with, and the more intelligible the result will be.
Noise is the sound that is riches in frequency content - it actually contains ‘all’ frequencies at once. Noise is all frequencies while Music is a concentration of mathematically related frequencies.
A sine wave would be the definition of the fundamental frequency (no harmonics) so it would make a poor candidate for vocoding or processing in a talkbox.
A pulse or square wave contain just the odd number harmonics. While a sawtooth wave contains all the harmonics (both odd and even).
Basically sawtooth waves would be a better choice for processing than something that leans more toward the sine wave family. But basically, you have to experiment, because both a talkbox and/or vocoder are going to work on what you feed in.
The classic “robot voice” vocoder is done with noise, not a musical tone. There is a kind of robotic monotone about it because it is done with noise. But since you are feeding the MO sound into the talkbox or vocoder - before you buy some additional Voices that may or may not work… try what you have - you will want to experiment (anyway) to get what you are going after
The ‘talkbox’ is quite a different thing from what a ‘vocoder’ is. And they give two very different sounds. One uses your mouth as a resonant chamber - so that you can use your mouth to give shape to the sound.... while the other takes your vocal formants (via a microphone input) and applies them to a synth sound.
Many people mix up a talkbox with a vocoder, and find that they actually wanted the other one. So before you buy anything, make sure that what you get is what you are really seeking. Hope that helps.
