Re: indivual voice volume controls on a Multi
Volume control in MIDI is handled by a channel Control Change message. So it should be no problem to have independent Volumce Control per channel.
The Keyboard controller can use either cc007 (Main Channel Volume) or cc011 (Expression) - when you send this message from the controller keyboard on a specific Channel it will only affect the Sound assigned to that specific MIDI channel.
The difference is as follows:
cc007 (Main Channel Volume) is the overall Volume of the PART in the Multi. It is the value you see in the screen when you select that PART. 0-127. When set to a value of 96, for example, the Voice for that PART will play at that volume.
cc011 (Expression) is used as the artistic volume control… it works within the range established by the Main Channel Volume (cc007) parameter. In the example, we set the Main Channel volume to a value of 96… when the Expression pedal is toe-down, the Voice in the PART will max out at 96… and the 0-127 will work down from a maximum of 96.
This way you can set a maximum for a specific PART. Imagine you have the string sound and you realize that it never, ever need to exceed a maximum level of 96… you would set the VOLUME of the PART to 96 and STORE the multi. Then you could use cc011 Expression - while heel down would be 0 (no sound) toe down would not exceed the 96 set by the main channel Volume.
Hope that helps.
