Re: Gate Arpeggio Question
It has to do with the ARPEGGIO KEY MODE… A Key Mode (explained below in detail) determines how the arp behaves. In short: when you press keys either you hear the tone generator directly, or the you hear arpeggiator play the tone engine. There are different types of arpeggios - this is where the Arp Cateogories and the KEY MODES come in…
The arpeggios in the “Cntr” (Controller) category are not made up of note data, but are strictl controller data… Expression, Pan, Filter Cutoff, etc… So there is no regular note data generated, and what you hear is the controller data being applied to the Voice - but the Voice must be set to trigger “directly” by your key presses.
The arpeggio #6471 “GateL1” is in the Controller “Expression” category - meaning it is cc011 (Expression). So what you hear is amplitude (volume) changes very rapid and very rhythmic.
In order for the CONTROLLER cateogry arps to be effective you must set the KEY MODE = “DIRECT"… Because you want to hear the notes you play trigger the tone engine directly - the arp is applying controller data to the direct sound. This is in contrast to the normal (sort type) arpeggio where what you play is not heard, instead the arpeggio pattern plays the keys in your place (non-direct).
This is why there is no sound… the controller data is flying around but in order to hear it you must send the key presses “direct” to the tone engine.
Regular arpeggios (with note data patterns) uses the “SORT” or the “THRU” type… as key presses are sorted according to the instructions of the note pattern of the arpeggio.
If you set the KEY MODE on the Dee Tune Voice to “DIRECT” you will hear the GateL1 do its thing.
Press [EDIT]
Press [COMMON EDIT]
Press [F2] ARP MAIN
On the page where you select the Arpeggio Type, find the KEY MODE parameter and if you are using a “Cntr” Category Arpeggio, set the KEY MODE = “Direct”

Arpeggio KEY MODES explained:
There are several different “Key Modes” for the arpeggiator. Each has a different reaction to when you trigger notes. It will be important for you to get this point clear in order to understand how an arpeggio works:
Settings: sort, thru, direct, sort+direct, thru+direct
sort
When you play specific notes (for example, the notes of a chord), the same sequence plays, no matter what order you play the notes.
thru
When you play specific notes (for example, the notes of a chord), the resulting sequence differs depending on the order of the notes.
direct
Note events of the Arpeggio sequence do not play; only the notes you play on the keyboard are heard. When the Arpeggio plays back, the events such as Pan and Brightness are applied to the sound of your keyboard performance. Use this setting when the Arpeggio types includes non-note data or when the Category type “Ctrl” (Controller) is selected.
sort+direct
The Arpeggio is played back according to the “sort” setting here, and the note pressed is also sounded.
thru+direct
The Arpeggio is played back according to the “thru” setting here, and the note pressed is also sounded.
