Will these templates work with early versions of cubase such as sx3?

Re: Extensions for Steinberg DAW

Extensions/templates?

Can you be more precise which.

I think some of the new features are designed for C4 and onwards. But if you can be precise, someone will be able to tell you, or point you in the right direction.

Cheers

Re: Extensions for Steinberg DAW

“Extensions for Steinberg DAW” is a set of program plug-ins and project templates developed by Yamaha to enhance the functions of Steinberg DAW software.”

I was just curious to know if the same would apply for cubase SX3

Re: Extensions for Steinberg DAW

It is a legitmate question. And the answer is “not really”. Any thing that is working is more luck than anything else.

The “Yamaha Extensions for Steinberg DAW” are designed to work with and for the current versions of Steinberg software. These were written, tested, and when bugs were found, the bug fixes were tested and worked out for current versions of Steinberg software (not for pre-existing versions).

Certain functions of what Yamaha calls the OPT (Open Plugin Technology) protocols work for Cubase SX3.1.1 - as that was the official version of Cubase when Yamaha and Steinberg started working on the Studio Connections initiative.

So for example, if you have Cubase SX3.1.1 the STUDIO MANAGER will run inside of Cubase and the IMPORT > Motif XS SONG function does appear… but because there is no corresponding fix for Cubase SX3.1.1 it does not work exactly as it is spec’d to work in Cubase version 4’s. For example, there is a known bug where the tracks do not assign the proper MIDI channel… this bug was fixed for all of the Cubase version 4’s (AI4, Essential 4, Studio 4 and Cubase 4) but never fixed in SX3.

And I would doubt that it ever will be… at some point (and I think Steinberg has already declared that point) there will be no more fixes for SX3…

Everything that the Extensions address (which includes identifying the Motif XS MIDI and audio ports by name; and new setups for routing of incoming audio, new templates, etc., etc.) is really made to work with Cubase series 4. Any thing that works currently is really a result of luck (not strictly luck, but it was before both sets of engineers got together and fully worked the protocol out)… so call it serendipity.

So if you get things to work it is simply because the functions were going in that direction, not the result of someone working it out so that it was debugged and fully useful. A good reason to upgrade to Cubase series 4 software.
