Hi,

I am experiencing issues in trying to upgrade the firmware.

I keep getting checksum error, even though I have tested the zip file and found no errors.

Is there anyone experiencing similar problem?

Re: Need help with new firmware

Perhaps your sequencer is not set to send or is choking on the System Exclusive data. You don’t mention what sequencer you are attempting to use. The data once unzipped and loaded to a sequencer set to send System Exclusive is good.

Let us know. If you are want assistance call Customer Support.

Re: Need help with new firmware

[related/unrelated:]

I’ve had a similar problem when communicating the rack with the editor.  During which, I am just selecting Multis within the editor banks that I like (to load onto the rack).  I have a checksum error when loading one Multi in particular:  Scifi Foley - Atonal.

However, even after the error, the Multi appears to have loaded correctly (plays correctly).

I am running the editor on a macbook pro 2.4ghz os 10.5.5

I am unsure of what might be causing this problem or what to think of it.

Re: Need help with new firmware

Hi,

Thank you for the reply, I am using cakewalk sonar version 7 as my sequencer.

Is there any specific settings that I need to do?

Re: Need help with new firmware

You have not told us much about your connection. I assume you have successfully created a USB connection between your computer and the Rack XS, and that you have mapped the Yamaha USB Driver inside of Sonar itself.

You do need to have a midi track in Sonar that is set up to transmit to the Rack XS at 120 BPM. As a test, try loading a musical midi track in Sonar that is set up to play back to the rack. If you can successfully play that midi file from Sonar to the Rack XS (you can hear it), then delete the musical midi data and replace it with the Yamaha file.

After setting the Rack up to receive the update, press play in Sonar.

Re: Need help with new firmware

If you cannot get Sonar to handle the System Exclusive data, you an use Windows Media Player.

Re: Need help with new firmware

Summary of setup:

Motif XS Rack connect via USB to DAW and Edirol PCR 800 as the master controller connected to DAW via USB.

I can play midi file without any problem either through cakewalk or cubase AI4.

I have also browsed through all the forums for similar issues and have followed available solutions, but still no luck.

The issue still persist, I even tried windows media player version 10 and set up audio midi device to motif-rack xs port 1.

Here are my steps:

1) Switched on Motif-Rack XS

2) Switched on Edirol PCR 800

3) Launched the sequencer

4) From cakewalk sonar I opened the firmware

5) At this point I have not even press play on the sequencer, I get an error message checksum error on the motif-rack LCD.

Any clues?

Re: Need help with new firmware

In step # 1 above ... are you just turning the unit on, or are you putting it into the update mode as detailed in the readme files included with the firmware?

For what it’s worth, using Windows Media Player worked like a champ for me.

Re: Need help with new firmware

Yep, I think you missed the “secret button” presses as you power up.... The Motif-Rack XS can only receive the updater information if you power up in UPDATER mode.

Check once again the instructions. Hold down the following buttons simultaneously with your right hand and power up with your left:
[UP Cursor] + [VOICE] + MULTI]

Continue to hold them until you see “FIRMWARE UPDATE” in the screen

Re: Need help with new firmware

Hi Guys,

Firmware updated!

Thanks for all your help, for some obvious reason I did not read the readme file thoroughly and failed to recognize the most important part of the update procedure.
