How good is the Nord Modular G2 or G2X compare to the Dave’s Instruments Prophet 8 ???? I know the Nord is virtual analog and the Prophet is real analog, but which one sound better and is worth the purchase ????

Re: Question about Nord and Prophet

That really is a matter of your own opinion. Surely there are music stores in your area with both on display, where you can audition them side by side.

Re: Question about Nord and Prophet

I agree with Dave, it’s a matter of tastes. The G2 is far more versatile than anything out there, but like any other synthesizer it has its own sound. You can create amazing sounds and effects, but it requires a lot of knowledge and patience.

You can check the G2 demo version. It emulates only one DSP instead of four but you’ll get the idea behind the synthesizer and the modular concept.

Nord Modular G2 Demo

Don’t forget to download the patches as well. Although they are not fantastic, you can learn a lot from them.

Nord Modular G2 Factory Presets

The Prophet 8 should be much more immediate, like our Nord Lead 3, and sounds great out of the box.

I would get them both /forums/images/icons/smile.gif alt=

There are two excellent and comprehensive reviews in Sound on Sound.

Albert, thanks for the links to the Nord demo! I wasn’t even aware there was a demo.

Gotta love free stuff..

Re: Question about Nord and Prophet

Dave, don’t forget to check this forum:

There are thousands of useful patches, effects, sequences, etc. Many of them work with the demo version. I consider the demo to be a very powerful and usable product itself. I use it a lot in my office because my G2 is usually at home.

Re: Question about Nord and Prophet

Well, I couln’t figure out how to see those “Demos” but here are a few simple practical demos of the Nord Modular G2 and the Prophet 8:

Here are some demos for the Prophet 8

The nord modular G2 is very cool but I think I would go with the Prophet 8 since it’s ALL Analog easy to use and has a step sequencer. Hope I sell my Andromeda which is not easy to use, plus the Prophet 8 sounds better and it’s smaller and weights less.

Any way the G2 is awesome, a little bit more for todays electronic music, so I’m still a little bit in dought, the G2 costs less than the Prophet 8. So I was thinking that if I get the Prophet8 then I could sell my NL3 and get the G2 maybe.
