Re: Storing AEG parameters in Song mode
This is due to the fact that there is another controller assigned to control AEG DECAY and that controller is one that is reset when the RESET ALL CONTROLLER message is sent (it is sent whenever you recall a mode or switch programs).
Let me explain: The AEG parameters you are seeing found here:
Press [MIXING]
Press [EDIT]
Press Track Select [1]-[16] to select PART edit parameters
Press [F4] TONE
Press [SF4] AEG
Attack, Decay, Sustain, and Release
These are OFFSET parameters. They are not programming the sound itself but are added to or subtracted from the Amplitude Envelope Generator settings contained within the Voice. As you realize each Voice is made up of up to four Elements (Multi-samples) and each Element has its own AEG… the AEG you are adjusting is an overall AEG and it quickly lets you change the overall loudness shape of the sound. Instead of having to go into a VOICE and individually change the ATTACK on each of the four possible ELEMENTS these OFFSET parameters were made available. They simply are a convenience.
Now I mentioned that they must be assigned to a controller that is being reset when you recall the Song… much like you cannot store the position of the modulation wheel (a controller that is also reset when a program is recalled) you cannot store the OFFSET of a parameter if it is being overriden
AEG DECAY and AEG SUSTAIN will both seem to not be stored when you offset them in a MIXING SETUP, this is due to the fact that they are assigned to ASSIGN A (cc018) and ASSIGN B (cc019) Which will return to their +0 (12 o’clock) setting.
You can get around this in two ways:
1) Actually go to the VOICE, via the VCE ED (Voice Edit function you can access full Voice edit parameters while in the MIX) and really edit the Voice itself and store that edit to a MIX VOICE… (the long way).
2) Change the assignment of the AS A and AS B functions so they do not reset your AEG Decay and AEG Sustain parameters… (the short way).
_ go to [UTILITY]
_ press [F4] CTRL ASN
_ press [SF2] ASSIGN
_ Select a different destination for AS A and AS B
I have set these to OFF as these controls are universal (all modes) and unless I have a specific job for them I do not use them.
Press [STORE] to lock in your UTILITY mode settings.
Hope that helps. (We call this affectionately, the Chick Corea function - it was the first ES call we got from Chick back in 2003)
