I want to take a midi w/XG (it sounds whacky) and use the GM soundset. If I take the XG midi, load it on the motif and use the gm reset function (where the motif assigns voices), it sounds great. How can I save that now as a standard midi though with the GM assignments?

Any help would be great - thanks.

You should save your mix as MIDI bulk:
[Song] - [Mix] - [Job] - [F4] Bulk and press Enter.
Than your mix settings will be saved as sysex messages in track 1, so when you save your song as standard MIDI file (SMF) you will have retained your GM assigments.
