Re: Playing USB files (M7A) on computer

A file with the extension .M7A is a MO6 or MO8 ALL data file. If you want do something like burn it to a CD, we assume you mean as audio.... you have to do many steps before you can do that.

The .M7A file is only readable by a MO6, MO8, Motif ES, and Motif XS… it is meaningless as a file that can be played back on a CD player. For that you would need to record the audio output of your MO6 or MO8 to software like Cubase.

And to do that you would need an audio interface for your computer; one worthy of recording music. Depending on where in the world you are - you may have received a version of Cubase with your purchase of the MO synthesizer. That is a first step.

Then you will need to get yourself a decent audio interface - the purpose is so you can record audio output from your keyboard to your computer. Unfortunately computers only have limited ability when you first buy them to record music professsionally. The soundcards that come with most computers are capable of recording just basic sound (small microphone inputs, etc.) they are designed for games, and playing back music - not making your own music (not yet anyway).

You will need some kind of audio interface capable of handling the output levels of pro gear… check into devices like the Yamaha AUDIO GRAM … this is an audio interface that will allow you to prepare signals properly for your computer software (Cubase) to record.

Cubase is capable of creating the necessary .wav or AIFF file you will need to burn a professional sounding CD… which will be handled by yet another piece of software (you may already have on your computer)… again, the stuff that comes with the computer, while okay, is not going to be ‘designed’ for pro music… Software like Steinbergs WaveLab series - can provide all the tools you need to make professional CDs (including cover art and liner notes)...!

but that will get you started.
