Awesome, I was waiting for this! Now the “TB Show Rig”:

Roland Fantom G7
Novation Remote 61
Yamaha Rack XS
Korg M3 M

... can be complete!

Multisampling my a**

Have a look at the PDF describing new features - you can create note ranges, but you can’t do velocity switching. This is FAR LESS advanced than XS sampling engine.

Apparently Roland has a “new” definition of multisampling

Also, XS can play stereo samples, Fantom cannot.

Re: Fantom G 1.10 Update available

Clearly, neither of you are all that familiar with the Fantom X or Fantom G:

It absolutely does velocity switching, you just program it at the voice/patch level.

The Fantom X and G both support stereo sampling.

You are right, Jonathan

Neighter of us are familiar with those products. You are just listening to some Yamaha product elitist, but this is normal on this forum.

If you want to get a non-biased opininon just go seraching on other non Yamaha forum.

By saying this I am really against me (just have a look at my gear list) but let’s face the reality. Here you won’t find any valuable info on what you are really looking for.

Best regars,

Arpad

Re: Fantom G 1.10 Update available

I love my Fantom G. Can’t describe it. Kinda how I felt when I got my Motif ES7. It’s so intuitive and easy to create and and experiment with. After gaining the multisample function today, I sampled some sounds from my Jupiter 8 and it sounds great!
I brought the G to band practice and it definitely sits well in a live setting. Better than other boards I’ve tried to put in the mix. I spent a year with the Motif XS6 and liked some things about it, but something was missing. I never had an interest in the Fantom X. When I played the Fantom G it had more punch and sparkle than the X and the XS, so that’s what I’m using.
I have no allegiance to any company. I love to try new gear and have some I’ll never part with. I will not knock other gear and say something else is superior to it. That’s all speculative. The sound is in the ear of the beholder.

Re: Fantom G 1.10 Update available

Hmmm ... I think you mean “deaf” as in someone who hears a everyday common phrase like “tone deaf”, but hears it as “tone death”.

Yep, I wouldn’t trust someone’s opinion on sound quality if they exhibited that trait.

It absolutely does velocity switching, you just program it at the voice/patch level.

Well, then that’s not really “multisampling”, sorry. In Motifs I can have virtually as many velocity switches done on the waveform level and still have 3 (ES) or 7 (XS) additional “layers” to play with.

I can’t help but wonder why does Fantom G keep popping up in those “fix the sampler in Motif” discussions, as it’s possibilities in that area are clearly INFERIOR

Re: Fantom G 1.10 Update available

It just hit me -

why do we discuss Fantom G OS updates on an XS board - shouldn’t that be in the Mo’Lounge?
