I’m sorry Yamaha, but what a rip off! I see Sweetwater is now carrying the new MM8, and the price at Sweetwater for this unit is $1000 (well $999), but close enough. Is this really the MAP for this unit? NOTHING changed on this unit but the keybed, and the price went up to a grand! Geez, sorry but I fail to see where Yamaha is listening to their customers here as I can’t remember seeing all those posts popping up in huge numbers with a request for an 88 key MM model.

Re: MM8 Price.. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!
The MM8 nor MM6 will loop record. Their sequencers are strictly linear. If you want to use loop recording you need to do it via a software seq such as the one that ships with the MM keyboards.

Re: MM8 Price.. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!! Squeak...you missed the smile I put on that question...It was a joke. Thanks for the answer, which obviously I already know. I was being sarcastic. Alot of people buy these instruments (not me, though) and then get pissed off when they find out they cant loop or quantize. |

Re: MM8 Price.. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry about the mix up there with your post. I think there would be a lot less confusion and consumer (post purchase anger) if the buyers actually did more research on an item before they buy it. All the keyboard companies have their manuals online to read. Any questions a person has can get answered just by reading the manual. It’s a very valuable benefit for the potential buyer to be able to read the owners manual before making a decision.

Re: MM8 Price
The MM8 might not be for you. That’s why we make the three different lines of synths - Motif XS, MO and MM series.

Re: MM8 Price
Yamaha_US, sir I respect your post on this topic. However, there were many issues of concern raised about the MM series. Clearly there was a list of user requests as well. What makes no sense is that an 88 key MM6 was not one of the topics raised about this board.

Good for you Squeak. Stick to your guns. Don’t let the official party line browbeat you into believing the marketing hype. “MM” stands for Mickey-Mouse, not Mini-MO!

Re: MM8 Price
The mm6 is selling great and will continue to sell great. For around 500 clams you can get a keyboard.

Re: MM8 Price I first saw that the MM8 was available and I assumed - a few more keys - maybe another $150 for an 88 note - in the range of ...$600-$700. I certainly have no interest in the board at the price they’re asking. (and I haven’t seen one in a store yet) |

Re: MM8 Price
I’d like to know what keybed Yamaha used on the MM8. Is it a good GHS board worthy of the additional $400 or is it the same GHS bed found on their arranger line the YPG-625..? I’m going to take a shot in the dark here and speculate that since the MM6 is an arranger and built in the PSR factory that the new MM8 logically would share yet another part of that in using the same GHS keybed from the YPG line.

Re: MM8 Price
Wastral, right on the money there man. Mickey Mouse is more like it. Regardless of what Yamaha says the MM aint no MO. They took some MO flavored sounds and put them in an arranger keyboard and took away any real user control. You get a joke set of knobs whos settings have to be saved to registrations (a classic arranger keyboard feature), which is a pain in the ass as it takes a snapshot of the ENTIRE keyboard layout. There’s no user voice area. You can’t even quantize on the seq (a basic function found on a $99 Zoom drum machine), no portamento. It’s sad that being an arranger you cannot even record user styles (a feature that was even on the cheapo Yamaha PSR-540/550).

If it has the Motif piano ...the same exact one as the ES, and it has a good selection of EPs, organs and string pads ... ...

Re: MM8 Price
$1000, that’s about £500 here in the UK.
