Hello everyone,

I am a new member and I apologize for my bad english (i am french).
well, I ‘d be very thankful if you helped me, please!!!
I own a motif-rack.
I have two keybords midi controller.

I have plugged the first keybord via the midi “In” input of the motif-rack.
I’ve plugged the second keyboard via the midi “thru” input of the motif-rack.

My question is :

How could I have, for example, a Rhodes sound with the first keyboard and a Clainet sound with the second keyboard?

thanks a lot for your support!!!

Best regards,

G.L.

Re: motif-rack played with two different keyboards

Welcome to the forums!

Are you wanting BOTH keyboards to produce sounds on the RACK?  If so, the first issue is that the THRU port is NOT an INPUT port.  It’s an OUTPUT port (Anything that comes into the RACK’s INPUT port will be sent out the THRU port, depending on the config.)

You’ll need to go:

KEYBOARD 1 OUT -> KEYBOARD 2 IN
KEYBOARD 2 OUT -> RACK IN

You’ll need to configure KEYBOARD 2 to MERGE its INPUT to its OUT.

If neither keyboard has the capability to MERGE, then you’ll need an external merger device (MIDI SOLUTIONS MERGER works very well)

Once you get your connections sorted, the answer to your next question is, YES, you can definately do that.

You’d need to configure Keyboard 1 to send on CHANNEL 1, and KEYBOARD 2 to send on CHANNEL 2, then create a MULTI that maps the correct voices to the correct channels within a PART.

The actual CHANNEL NUMBERS don’t matter, as long as they are UNIQUE, and that they match whatever the RACK is set to receive.
