Hi,

I am totally new to PLG board.  I do have an AN plugin board installed.  So far, I have only played with the presets.  While they are very good, but how tweakable are these sounds?

I have installed the AN extpert editor on my PC, but have no clue on how to get started.

I was wondering how versatile the AN board could be.  Can you get Acess virus like leads and pads with AN.

Similar to these videos:

That would be really awesome.  I would be willing to tweak hard if the AN PLG card has the potential…

Does anyone know where I can find free patches /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif alt=

Thanks

Re: PLGAN150 (Mini Moog/Virus sounds possible)

Thanks Phil.  Thanks a lot for the links.

I have the PLG installed in my Motif.  I will download the read the articles.

By the way, can you program the AN to sound like the Yamaha CS80?

Where can I learn the basics of Synthesizers?  (Any 101 on synths would greatly help. )

I would like to know more about the following:

VCO
VCF
VCA
LFO

Thanks so much,

Enigmatic,

You’re welcome /forums/images/icons/smile.gif alt=
I’m sure there’re many of PLG-AN voice banks here in this forum for free but seriously can’t find where after I sold my ES7. Do a search job & you may find good stuff.

Re: PLGAN150 (Mini Moog/Virus sounds possible)

The AN1x “Megadrone” patch comes close in a “fizzy moog lead” type manner, and whilst I’m not a synth bass fan, the AN1x synth bass patches sound like the bass sounds I’d associated with a Moog.

But I’ve never managed to get any of my AN equipped synths to sound “moogy” in a progressive rock “shine on you crazy diamond” lead type fashion! And I’ve tried quite hard over the years of having my EX5 (and its AN implementation). Perhaps I’m doing something wrong, or it was something peculiar to the EX5 AN, but I failed, and have given up on that quest on my AN equipped synths since I got my (shock horror my only non-yammie synth!) Nord G2 Engine (a modular synth in a 1U rack!), on which it was much easier to get what I was after - I achieved in day what I had been after for years on the EX5.

I of course managed to get the EX5 AN to sound identical to my Yamaha CS15 (my first ever synth)! So it could be a case of horses for courses!

I’d be interested in how other people have fared on the Moog quest on the AN series?

(a plug on the plugboard page!) If you listen to “The Cage Part I and III” on http://www.myspace.com/echoesmusic , you can hear the AN1x, Nord G2, Motif ES and FS1R all together

The AN1x is doing the “fizzy” bass/lead sound most prominent on Part I (the Megadrone factory patch, which I really adore for it’s unison power). The “moog lead” on the intro to part III where the drums kick in is the Nord G2. The Motif ES is providing the organ and string pads. The FS1R you can hear on the intro to part III (which the Nord providing a bass drone). Between them all, that’s an awesome combination!

PS: Thanks, Brad for those AN ES specific links, I didn’t know about those and will check them out.

Re: PLGAN150 (Mini Moog/Virus sounds possible)

I am going through the AN Advance manual.  I can see patch 009: Synclead, 011: Mini and 029: Minilow are all emulating Moog.  Have you tried with those patches as a starting point to get Moog sounds?

(See bad mister’s response in this tread )

I cant wait to dive this weekend with all the AN stuff.  /forums/images/icons/cool.gif alt=

Re: PLGAN150 (Mini Moog/Virus sounds possible)

I’ve tried modifying existing patches and creating them from scratch, and still can’t get that particular sound.

Re: PLGAN150 (Mini Moog/Virus sounds possible)

I will be ordering the Regenarator Pack for PLG150-AN soon.

I’m not sure whether the regenerator patches will be benefit you or not...but you may want to look into it as well…

I loved the demos...check em out.

Re: PLGAN150 (Mini Moog/Virus sounds possible)

Well, I’ve got the “shine on” type Moog sounds I want now, just not out of a Yamaha box! /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif alt=

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Yamaha AN implementation; it makes some great noises and there’s AN1x patches I can’t accurately recreate on the Nord, which is why I brought a PLG150-AN for my Motif Rack ES as I don’t want to gig my AN1x (as well as everything else). So it really is horses for courses. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif alt=

I listened to the Regenerator sound samples, and I’ll probably get it; there’s some good patches in there.

Re: PLGAN150 (Mini Moog/Virus sounds possible)

Ok.  I bought the Regenerator Pack.  I have to go home and try it out.  Surprisingly, it also came with patches compatible with the Rack, S90 and ES series.

I am attaching the manual.  There seems to be a lot of Moog patches.

Can’t wait to try it out.  /forums/images/icons/cool.gif alt=

(Dont forget to download and take a look at the manual)

Re: PLGAN150 (Mini Moog/Virus sounds possible)

Of course it is compatible with any Yamaha that can accommodate PLG’s
and that’s a lot more than S-series and Motifs.

You can also check the Easy sounds bank for Plg AN on the bottom of this page

Re: PLGAN150 (Mini Moog/Virus sounds possible)

Derek,

No two synthesizers sound the same.
If you want to emulate a voice with your AN, you must have the audio example of the needed voice (patch) then view it with sample/audio editor (such as wave lab or sound forge), carefully check the peeks & examine the wave shape, how it’s going, how it is ending. That will give you the needed information to build (or let’s say simulate) the voice, such as the oscillator setting, wave shape, filter setting, ADSR setting, pitch/FX setting etc.

I personally make AN voices on EX5 and can simulate many voices. But to tell the truth, the filter block of the AN device is thinner than Moog’s.

If you want reall good Moog emulator (especially for basses) I’d suggest this super VST ASynth , it’s small “600 KB” and very very wicked AND FOR FREE /forums/images/icons/smile.gif alt=
