I am looking to buy a volume pedal as I often use organ patches on the Motif. I also use organs on a Roland at my church. However, I would also possibly use it to adjust other parameters in real time (i.e. wah effect pedal, modulation, etc.). I would like feedback on both the FC7 and the dual FC9. I appreciate any and all input regarding this purchase. Thanks…

Re: FC7 or FC9?

I’ve owned a half dozen or so FC7’s.  You can stand on them.  Literally.  The only two issues are accidentally cutting the cable if you forget to unwrap it completely - it gets caught between the moving pedal and stationary base plate - and the “L” bracket that keeps the two parts together.  The “L” bracket metal doesn’t have the tenacity to hold it’s shape over time so it eventually - I’m thinking in about a year of use - bends and you’ll find yourself re-assembling the pedal on a regular basis.  It needs to be redesigned with a metal that hold’s it’s springiness permanently.  If someone had the tooling it would make an interesting after-market product.

Other than that, and the expected connector replacement once in awhile, they last pretty much forever..

Re: FC7 or FC9?

I have used an FC7 for a number of years and have had no problems at all.  To be fair, it does not get taken out too much, mostly used in the studio, but it’s built like a tank and works great.

Re: FC7 or FC9?

ohernie,

Those seems like major problems. I would not look forward to repairing the pedal every year. Annual pedal repair is not a positive point for it.

Thanks for the input. Any other thoughts?…

Re: FC7 or FC9?

Close, no cigar.  I forget that not everyone is a lounge lizard like me.  I don’t live in a recording studio, I gig.

I’ve done three years of summertime gigs at a waterpark, Memorial to Labor Days.  The first two years I used the SY-99.  The first year was 7 days a week and the second 6 days a week.  I also had some evening gigs.  In those two years alone the FC7’s were unwrapped, connected, disconnected, wrapped and thrown into my cord suitcase at least 400 times.  I now use a wireless AX-7 system for those kinds of gigs.

Did I mention that I played outside, uncovered?  Weather gets pretty interesting here in Illinois and you can bet that the pedals were the last thing I was worried about getting wet.

When I say it takes about a year for the bracket to act up, I’m talking at least 200 setup cycles.  My guess is that if you don’t move it from a studio or are a weekend warrior it will last forever.

Re: FC7 or FC9?

. . . 200+ setup cycles in a ‘hostile’ outdoor environment is a lot! We put our rig up at church 5 times a week and the Yamaha pedals have outlasted everything else (although the cables/plugs need a little bit of TLC from time to time) they are definitely tank-like.

Cheers

Re: FC7 or FC9?

Ernie,

Thanks for the clarification. I’m not sure how many setups I would expect. No more than possibly 2 a week. Normally less. So I should have less to worry about. LOL…

Re: FC7 or FC9?

My FC7 has never actually broken, but it comes apart about every other gig. I just snap it back together and it always works. The cable likes to pop out of the detent in the base also.

Re: FC7 or FC9?

Seems to be a structural malfunction with the pedal. Thanks for the input, Wastrel…

Re: FC7 or FC9?

IMO there is nothing better to add to your Motif than two FC-3 pedals, and 2 FC-7 controllers.  why not have all the pedals and ability that your $2000-3000 keyboard can handle.???

Set one to volome other to Wah, or Rotory speaker, or Mod wheel Ect

I keep one mapped to mod wheel, all the time and change the other from time to time.  Play with two hands and still use the mod wheel /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif alt=

Re: FC7 or FC9?

Jimstang,

Excellent points! I would probably go for one to control volume and the other to control rotary or wah or mod. LOL. Can you get the pedals for me for no charge? LOL. Thanks again…

Re: FC7 or FC9?

Hi

I have also a question regrading this two pedals:

I want to control the volime of my Motif classic via pedal.
As I can see, FC9 is stereo volume pedal and FC7 expression pedal - but what is difference?

Which pedal is better for the volume control?
... and which one do you prefer?

Can someone please explain
