Probably user error but I am not having luck with finding additional info to help me use XS as a Remote for Logic Pro 8 and how to record arpeggio (the midi).

1) I have XS 6, iMac G5 and Logic Pro 8.  In the utility screen I set the XS to control Logic.  When I click the play button in Logic the led above the play button on the XS lights up but I can’t use the XS transport buttons to play, stop, etc.  I played around with the Midi driver in the pref panel of the iMac to stop the button presses from triggering midi notes but can’t make it control the DAW.  Do i need to use both USB cables?  Please help.

2) Recording Arps.  I know that I need to send the arp instructions one place and record the midi notes in another but that’s it.  Please help me on how to accomplish this.

Re: XS Remote for Logic Pro 8

Sorry to be so basic but I have to start with the simple stuff.

First when you are trying to control Logic, do you have the “REMOTE”
button on the XS pushed so it is lit?
Second, have you created a “Logic Control” in the control surfaces
setup area of Logic?

Re: XS Remote for Logic Pro 8

No need for apology, I understand....

Yes, I do have the “Remote” key button pushed on the XS so that it is lit.  I think that when it is engaged it is a blinking light and not solidly lit but that is from memory and may not be correct (I will verify tonight).

Yes, I have created a “Logic Control” in the control surfaces setup area of Logic but if I remember correctly, the control surface appears on its own and does not show with a hard line connection to a computer icon as I’ve seen elsewhere in screenshots/pictures.

Do I need to have an environment of the XS in Logic or is that solely to be able to control the XS using Logic and be able to select voices/patches within Logic on the XS.

Finally, do you also know how to set-up everything for me to be able to record the midi arpeggiation and the performance?

Re: XS Remote for Logic Pro 8

There should be no cables in the setup area of the Control Surfaces window,
cables only appear in the environment. I also would have to ask if you
have the latest USB driver from Yamaha, since this is vital
for what you want to do.
As far as an environment, you do not need a special one to control
Logic from the XS but if you want to pull up different patches
by the patch name you will need a multi instrument object
that is setup for your keyboard.  If someone has a song
file they could post with an XS multi that is already set up
then you could just open the song and cut and paste the
multi into your environment. I have had a varied success rate
when trying to do this so I encourage people to set up their own multi
as this will work 100% of the time. I am working on a (new) video of
setting up a multi instrument for Logic and will post when it is finished.
