Well, I went ahead and dove off the deep end and bought a MIDI Event Processor to solve my WX5 concerns…

I found a gently used Yamaha MEP4 (Anyone remember or have one??) on craigslist in California.  Guy sold it to me for about $40!

For being vintage 1980’s, that thing is quite handy.  I set up a few presets that will take the BC data stream and CONVERT it to Volume CC’s, and set a constant velocity for all Note Ons (for voices that sound good with that) and others that have a variable Velocity.

Whoo hoo!  It works like a champ.  No more flipping DIP switches!

The only fault I have using this system is that when the MEP4 receives a PC to change its settings, it doesn’t send any data for about 150ms, so the PCs that instruct the MOTIF to change its patches get lost. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif alt=

So, I’ve ordered new UnO firmware for my FCB1010 on which I can tell it to send the MEP4’s instructions AFTER the MOTIF’s patch change.  But, it still leaves me having to be silent for a quarter second or so for the whole system to catch up.

Only time will tell if this will be suitable for live performance, but for $40, it’s an astoundingly simple solution to an annoying problem…
