Could you please direct me to the steps used to transpose on the MO8 both on the Go Mo! video and in the user’s manual.  Also, are there other ways to do it.
Thanks,
Steve C.

Re: Transpose

First, the word “Transpose” is often confused with the concept of “Note Shift”. And from your question there is not enough information to tell which you are interested in doing.

They both change the sound of what you hear up or down by semi-tones, but they have different meanings and consequences.

Note Shift: You will find a Note Shift parameter in the UTILITY mode
Press [F1] GENERAL
Press [SF1] TG (Tone Generator)
Note Shift here will change the pitch of all notes up or down over a 2 octave range by semi-tones.

Transpose: You will find a Transpose function in the UTILITY mode along with an Octave parameter.
Press [F1] GENERAL
Press [SF2] KBD (Keyboard)
Transpose will allow you to shift up or down +11/-11 semitones
Octave will allow you to shift up or down +3/-3 octaves

So what’s the difference if the result is the same?
Transpose is global for the internal sounds and out via MIDI by half steps and OCTAVES. (drums will remain at normal pitch)

Note Shift is global for the internal sounds and shifts all VOICES and PERFORMANCES up or down over a 2 OCTAVES range by half steps. NOTE SHIFT does not go out via MIDI (it is local to the internal Tone Generator). (drums will be pitched higher/lower)

Page 205 in your MO Owner’s Manual.

_Additionally effecting pitch are TUNE (Coarse and Fine tune) found within each VOICE. (page 196)
_In a PERFORMANCE you will find TUNE (Note Shift and Detune). It is a PART Edit parameter. (page 218)
_In a SONG and PATTERN you will find a TRANSPOSE function on the main screen. This will transpose the playback of MIDI data recorded to sequencer (however Drum Kits will ignore the command… drummers don’t transpose !!!)
_In SONG MIXING and PATTERN MIXING mode you find the same type of TUNE (Note Shift and Detune) function as in PERFORMANCE mode...it is a PART Edit parameter

Re: Transpose

Thanks for the explanation:

Still have a question:  Can I transpose only 1 performance or 1 voice and save that voice or performance in the new transposed setting while not affecting other voices and performances?

Re: Transpose

Yes. When you modify the NoteShift parameter for a part in a Performance or Song or Pattern mix, you are transposing the assigned voice for that part for the single performance or song or pattern mix you edit. It will not effect this voice anywhere else it may be used.

Re: Transpose

Brad:  Something’s not right.  When I note shift a specific performance and save it.  All other performances shiift notes as well.  Can you explain what could I be doing wrong?

Again, I just need one specific performance to shift two semi tones and save it that way without affecting all other performances.

thanks again.

Re: Transpose

You need to edit the NoteShift parameter in the [PERFORM]-->[EDIT]-->{part number ([1] - [4])}-->[F4] TONE-->[SF1] not the NoteShift parameter in the [UTILITY]-->[F1] GENERAL-->[SF1] TG dialog. (The former is specific to the performance you are editing while the latter is a global change.)

Brad Weber
