Hi, I’m a newbie to the Motif Rack ES so take it easy on me OK!
I have a new Yamaha Motif Rack ES and the USB function has gone missing. I had it all up and running in my studio via Pro Tools and Pro Logic on my Mac Pro computer but it wasn’t communicating quite right so I hit “Factory Set” on the Yamaha Motif Rack ES unit thinking that it would all re-configure and correct itself. The trouble is now I have no USB capability [no led readout] in the “Midi in/Midi out USB” function.

What’s going on and why has this Midi in/Midi out USB function disappeared after a Factory Set? I’m going crazy here trying to figure out why and where it has gone. If I can find out from one you Einstein brained Motif ES guru guys on how to fix it myself [with a little help], it would be great and I’ll probably offer to mow your lawn for a year. Hmm, then again maybe not. Lunch maybe? I’m having a brain snap here so could somebody PLEASE send me some step by step instructions via e-mail on how to rectify this unforeseen problem? It’s very frustrating to say the least as there is nothing in the manual that mentions how to get around this loss of Midi USB communication problem. Sheez, I assumed that “Midi In / Midi Out - USB” was a fundamental part of the standard factory internal electronic configuration/reset so why would it disappear with “Factory Set” or “Initialize” ? ? ? It just doesn’t make any sense to me. Please help ASAP as I have a lot of songs to get down and studio work to get done and it all needs to be done yesterday. Know what I mean? Thanks Motifators, I really look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Ray Burton

Re: MOTIF RACK ES Lost Midi In / Midi Out USB func

When you do a factory reset, the Motif Rack is setup to communicate via MIDI rather than USB. To restore your USB connectivity you need to set the MIDI IN/OUT parameter on the UTILITY-->MIDI page to USB (rather than the default value of MIDI).

By the way, you posted your question regarding the Motif Rack ES in the Motif Rack forum and I answered your question based on the Motif Rack - not Rack ES. Fortunately the answer is the same for this question regardless of which Rack unit you have… Brad

Re: MOTIF RACK ES Lost Midi In / Midi Out USB func

Thanks Brad, I’m aware that this is what I have to do but herein lies the problem. The Motif Rack ES is no longer giving me that option via utility because the Midi In / Midi Out via USB led front panel readout has disappeared. It is simply not there to select! This is why I am so frustrated by it. Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks again,

Ray

Did you try scrolling up and down through the Utility-->MIDI page looking for that parameter?

Brad
