What is the correct setting to play back some gm or xg midi files already on my computer. It seems like the Multi mode doesnt recognises Program change messages.

Multi does recognize program changes. But here is how you setup for GM/XG play;

Press MULTI - to enter MULTI mode
Press SHIFT + LIBRARY to enter the MULTI LIBRARY mode
Press the BANK [>] button to select the “MULTI” Library (these are Multi-MIDI-Channeled setups)
Select MULTI #65 GM Set.
Press SHIFT + ENTER twice to COPY this MULTI to the EDIT BUFFER.
If you want to store this as one of your USER MULTIs press SHIFT + STORE to place it in a USER location.
