i am just getting started on my motif es8, it is a beast. i have also bought an apple g5 2.3 gh computer and am now trying to figure out which software to buy for recording midi.

so far, its a toss up between cubase or protools, if anybody has any suggestions, please feel free to reply.

i live on the gold coast and would really like to meet other motif owners so i can pick up some tips. if anybody wants to meet up, you can contact me through my email which is

Since Yamaha bought Steinberg some time ago and they have been working closely in the Studio Connections project, I would suggest you to buy Cubase. You will find the best integration between your computer and The ES8 with it.

Cubase is still king of PC MIDI and with the Yammy connection, it does make a lot of sense. Of course, with a Mac, you also have a Logic choice.
Ultimately it is down to you.

I use Logic with the Presonus Firepod and it absolutley rocks!
No glitches at all.
