Re: Does anyone have an eventide h8000???

You could “hear” an Eventide (or more accurately, an Eventide “plug-in” since it is now out as a plug-in for Pro Tools) on just about any of the top 100 hits of the last two years, and earlier models of the Eventide on hundreds of albums before that.

I’m thinking you’ve got the impression the Eventide is some kind of astounding mind blowing effect. It isn’t. It’s really just an extremely sophisticated delay unit with some pitch changing algorithms as well. Trained recording engineers know its sound characteristics, just as they know the sound characteristics of a Lexicon PCM70, another popular effects unit for pro studios. But in a mix, you’d probably just say it was some kind of echo.

Believe it or not, in the Motif and S90 you already have many insert effects which do the same thing as the early Eventides and actually sound better. These would include the tempo-based delays, ensemble, pitch change, chorus, and flanger effects.

Thanks a lot for the info! But the h8000 is complete with over a thousand presets… Its not a master multi effects processor?

Re: Does anyone have an eventide h8000???

Yes, of course it’s a multi-effects processor. But it’s not a “master” multi-effects processor. There’s no such thing as a “master mult-effects processor”. There are “mastering plug-ins” (Waves L2, TC’s MasterX, etc.) which are brick-wall limiters combined with “maximizers” which make things louder. There are “multi-effects processors” which combine things like pitch shifting, chorus, delay, flange, and phase in any chain you care to construct. You wouldn’t use an Eventide as an effect across an entire mix, it’s not ment for that.

There’s no “magic box” or plug-in that will turn your mixed tracks into beautiful works of art like your favorite CD’s. Including the Eventide.

My suggestion is you buy an inexpensive recording software app like mackie’s Traktion or Cakewalk, and start experimenting and working with what is available in those programs.

Tech - stop flaming those who are trying to help.

Dave P was sharing his experience of the machine you asked about. Any sarcasm is what you are reading into his post.

Please tone down your language and your attitude.

Thank you

Wellie… I wasnt recieving total help, instead mocked for my lack of knowledge on this subject. This board has a few individuals who are unrightfully aggressive towards me. I dont enjoy people who belittle me. I suppose that would make anyone edgey?  /forums/images/icons/confused.gif alt=

Re: Does anyone have an eventide h8000???

Tech,

I re-read Dave’s post and he is not mocking in his tone.
Please don’t be so quick to take offense.

We want to help but your aggression will simply put people off.

Cool it bro.

OK

Re: Does anyone have an eventide h8000???

Others sparked hostility by causing unwanted tensions.Dont hate the rookie if your a pro. Just because I’m new to recording,it doesnt label me as a total idiot. Knowledge is gained with experience.again, I appologize to whom I may have offended.
