I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice. I got my TC Electronic Konnekt 6 yesterday (with Cubase LE4) and everything seems to be working just fine. I’m sure I will have loads of troubles in the near future, but for now I am making pretty cool music. My computer seems to have no trouble handling multiple VST’s yet (though I haven’t pushed it too much). Any suggestions for VST’s? Thanks again for all of your support.

Thanks FrankE, I did mean VSTi’s. I checked out Omnisphere. It looks incredible! I then proceeded to check out the system requirements. I don’t think my dual core 2 GHZ is worthy. It is way far ahead of everything else right now. I think I’m going to start off a little smaller. I am looking at Nexus 2 or Analog Factory. Is there anything else in the sub $300 price range worth looking at? Thanks for your time.
By the way, I checked out Stylus RMX and it looks pretty cool. Anyone use this?

I do, and Stylus RMX is excellent (as is all the Spectrasonics software) but for a totally different purpose than Omnisphere of course. What type of VSTi are you looking for? Synths, samplers, sound design (like the EastWest software), orchestral, specific instruments (guitars, basses), ethnic instruments? There are a lot of different types from which to choose for a lot of different types of music...............frank

I am looking to combine different genres. Techno, orchestral and new age. I downloaded the Nexus 2 and Analog Factory demos and am more impressed with Nexus 2. I also want an orchestral VSTi like Miroslav. I was drooling over EastWest’s Voices of Passion too. I have a limited budget, so I am always looking for the most for my money. Omnisphere looks like the ultimate but it would kill my computer. I checked out Harmony Central and Stylus didn’t get very good reviews. They said the sounds were not very good. But you say it’s good, so I’m confused. By the way, how are the EastWest VSTi’s? I’ve seen mixed reviews. Thanks again.

Well, I can only give you my opinion and relay the opinion of a few thousand others /forums/images/icons/smile.gif alt= , but

---Actually, I suggest that no, you don’t’. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif alt= What I mean is that I suggest EWQLSO is what you really want. I have both and IMHO, EWQLSO wins hands down. Philharmonik is perfectly useable so I won’t say anything negative about it, but it’s older and the sound quality and articulations just aren’t ‘there’ when compared to software like EWQLSO.
Listen to the demos of both.

---Excellent software; used it on the last soundtrack I completed. Depends though on what you want to do. If you are creating pop music, it’s probably not for you as the phrases wouldn’t fit. You can’t form words, but the set phrases can be chopped up. My favourite singer is the Bulgarian one, who I’ve nicknamed “Magi” (no, not ‘Maggie’, Magi is short for Magdelena), but opinions as to who is one’s favourite do vary.

---I suggest most people can say the same thing these days, so choose wisely and wait for the sales if you can. For example, EW ran a 2 for 1 sale in the fall, and a lot of people used that opportunity to save.

---Can’t comment on that because I don’t know all your specs, but suggest then that your computer might be a priority? Face it, if one doesn’t have a certain level of resources then MANY of today’s plug-ins will be a problem. That’s also why 64 bit systems are becoming more popular as well.

---Huh?? Who said the sounds were not very good? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif alt= Anyway, that makes no sense to me at all. Stylus is just about thee best program of its type on the market, is used and loved by countless number of people who actually own it, is amazing software (as are all the Spectrasonics programs), and will even have new features added shortly. I’d take any comments like that ‘with a grain of salt’. BTW, Stylus RMX can also be used now in conjunction with Omnisphere (see the videos) with amazing results for any composer.

f) “how are the EastWest VSTi’s?”
---Don’t get me started. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif alt= I suggest that, for some, they are like potato chips. You have one, and then you can’t stop until you have them all. There’s something there for everyone and they all run through the Play engine. Soundsonline have a very good forum, so visit it and see what the people who use these products are saying. Personally, I have and use EWQLSO Gold, VOP, Gypsy, Goliath, Symphonic Choirs, SD, RA and Fab Four (and Chris Hein Horns, Vols. 1.5 and 2). Nothing negative to say about any of them. Not saying they are perfect...no software I know of is, but they rank right up there.
Anyway, as I say, these are only my opinions; others may agree or disagree. And by the way, with most products you may always see ‘mixed reviews, so we must learn to judge for ourselves, and rely on those we trust, like the pros who use these plug-ins for a living and create music that you admire. HTH............frank

PS; We are also moving very far away from the topic of Cubase and the intent of the Steinberg conference, so perhaps questions and discussions of this type are better suited for the Lounge area? Just a thought

FrankE, thanks for your help. You are right about my questions not being Cubase centered. I am sorry for that. I am new to all of this. Future non-Cubase posts will be posted elsewhere. Thanks for your advice. I am not a professional by any means, so I will continue to do this as cheaply as possible.

Yes I would second the vote for RMX any one who would diss this program probably was upset because the core program is mainly electronic grooves but by buying all the expansion packs you get more than enough acoustic grooves. Plus the editing for it is sick.
