The YAHAMA FC4 & FC5 - IT'S NOT JUST A SUSTAIN PEDAL!

YAMAHA FC4 and FC5 FOOT PEDALS
When plugged into the FOOTSWITCH ASSIGNABLE jack on the back of the MOTIF, an FC4 or FC5 can be assigned to do many different functions (up to 102 control number options).
The FC4 / FC5 footswitch can send messages or numbers of 0 or 127. You can think of this as ON and OFF, as in the use of adding sustain BUT if you think of this as being the lowest position and highest position of lets say a knob or other controller, you can use this to instantly alter the filter or envelope of a VOICE, drastically change effects mixes etc...
Below is a list of just a few other applications that you can use an FC4 or FC5 for in the Motif, by plugging into FOOTSWITCH ASSIGNABLE, and changing the controller number assigned to FS.
1) PUSH [UTLITY]
2) PUSH [F4] for FT SW, This is where you can change what controller number the Assignable Footswitch will send to the Motif (the default setting is 88).
Mod Wheel- This will do the same thing as your Modulation Wheel. The big difference is that depressing the footswitch will give you the effect of the Mod Wheel in its top position (all the way up).
PortaSw-This will turn Portamento ON or OFF. This will only have effect however, if you have programmed your VOICE to use Portamento and have a Portamento Time programmed other than "0"-Zero
ArpSw-This will turn the Arpeggiator Switch ON or OFF
ArpHold-This will turn the Arpeggiator Hold function ON or OFF
Ply/Stop-This will allow you to START or STOP the Sequencer
PC/Inc-This will allow the Footswitch to function to send a Program Change of -1 within the bank you are in.
PC/Dec-This will allow the Footswitch to function to send a Program Change of +1 within the bank you are in.
You can assign parameters this Assignable Footswitch (FS88) in a similar manner to that which I explained with the BC3A above. These are just a few of many options. So get tweaking on those footswitch settings...and STEP ON IT!
HAPPY STOMPING!
