(In this case reassigning Modulation Wheel functions to Foot Controller 2 functions and an FC7 Foot Controller)

Project #1: Reassigning the Rotary Speaker Effect speed control in the Organ Voice PRE 1 53 (D05)-Or: 16+8+5&1/3. (To do this exercise you will need an FC7 Foot Controller-pictured below)

YAMAHA FC7 FOOT CONTROLLER

Voice PRE 1 53 (D05)-Or: 16+8+5&1/3 is an B3 organ Voice that allows you to change the speed of the Rotary Speaker or Leslie effect with the Modulation Wheel.

Lets say that you want to take the Rotary Speaker Effect Speed control that is assigned to the Modulation Wheel in Voice PRE 1 53 (D05)-Or: 16+8+5&1/3 and change it so that you can control the speed of the Rotary Speaker Effect from an FC7 plugged into Foot Controller 2 in the Motif. This involves a simple Voice editing. What you will need to do is change the controller assignment and then save the newly edited Voice in the User memory of the Motif. Here is how to do it.

First of all, insert an FC7 Foot Controller into the Foot Controller 2 jack. Then:

1. Select the Voice PRE 1 53 (D05)-Or: 16+8+5&1/3
2. Push the [EDIT] button. Push the [Drum Kits /Favorites/Common] button.
3. Push [F6] for CTL SET and then Push [SF1] to select Set 1 / 2.
4. Under SET 1 you will want to change what controller is assigned to the Rotary Speaker effect-speed. Notice that the current controller assigned is- MW (01).
That (MW-1) is your Modulation Wheel. Select this parameter using the cursor keys.
5. Change the MW (01) setting to FC2 (04) using the Data Dial or [Dec / No] and [Inc / Yes] buttons. This assigns the Rotary Speaker Effect speed control to the FC7 plugged into the Foot Controller 2 input jack of your Motif.
6. Store the Voice in the User memory and name the Voice something other than the original name, to avoid confusion.

Project #2: Reassigning the Element Balance Control for the Piano/Electric Piano layered Voice PRE 1 07 (A07)-AP: Ballad Keys. (To do this exercise you will need an FC7 Foot Controller)

Voice PRE 1 07 (A07)-AP: Ballad Keys is layered Piano and electric piano Voice that allows you to change the balance between the Piano and electric piano/piano layer with the Modulation Wheel. When the Modulation Wheel is completely in the down position, you will hear both acoustic and electric piano sounds, thus creating a layer. When the Modulation Wheel is completely in the up position, you will hear only the acoustic piano sound. Let us suppose that you do not want to take your hands off of the keyboard to create such an effect. Another way to do this is to use an FC7 Foot Controller and reassign the Modulation Wheel function of this Voice to the Foot Controller.
This will be done in a similar manner as we did Project #1. Here is how to do it:.

First of all, insert an FC7 Foot Controller into the Foot Controller 2 jack. Then:

  • Select the Voice PRE 1 07 (A07)-AP: Ballad Keys
  • Push the [EDIT] button. Push the [Drum Kits /Favorites/Common] button.
  • Push [F6] for CTL SET and then Push [SF1] to select Set 1 / 2.
  • Under SET 1 you will want to change what controller is assigned to the Element 1 level parameter. Notice that the current controller assigned is- MW (01). That (MW-1) is your Modulation Wheel. Select this parameter using the cursor keys.
  • Change the MW (01) setting to FC2 (04) using the Data Dial or [Dec / No] and [Inc / Yes] buttons. This assigns the element 1 Level to the FC7 plugged into the Foot Controller 2 input jack of your Motif.

In a similar manner we need to modify Controller SET 2 as follows:

  • Under SET 2 you will want to change what controller is assigned to the Element 2 level parameter. Notice that the current controller assigned is- MW (01). That (MW-1) is your Modulation Wheel. Select this parameter using the cursor keys.
  • Change the SET 2 MW (01) setting to FC2 (04) using the Data Dial or [Dec / No] and [Inc / Yes] buttons. This assigns the Element 2 Level to the FC7 plugged into the Foot Controller 2 input jack of your Motif.

Store the Voice in the User memory and name the Voice something other than the original name, to avoid confusion.

You should now have a Voice that is a layer of an electric piano and a piano sound. The FC7 Foot Controller in the completely "forward" or "down" position should create just a piano should. The FC7 in the complete "back" position should give you both piano and electric piano sounds.

Have fun!
