What to do with all those drum kits…
The Motif ES has a multitude of drum kits (actually97 of them); so many that many people don’t explore all of them. I have done clinics/music production workshops in the past where people will ask me where I got my drum sounds, only to find out that they are almost always straight from the Preset kits.
Using multiple drum kits in your music is a great way to build your rhythm parts instrument by instrument, and to explore using more abstract sounds for rhythm making. Separating your drum parts allows you to EQ tracks separately, and easily adjust balances and effect bus levels of the individual parts. With different or separate drum parts on different tracks you can also utilize Real Time Loop Remix per track, giving you many more possibilities for remix variations in your music, as opposed to remixing when composing with just one drum track.
I really like the kits that are in Perc (percussion) section of the Drum/Perc category in the Motif ES. One of my favorites is the Wood Bits kit.
Below is a PATTERN that I made named “BOom Whack!” consisting of 16 sections [A]-[H] and [I]-[P]. (The file name is BOOMWACK.W7P. It can be loaded in as an individual Pattern.)
It’s an electronic kit based set of tracks mixed up with some Wood Bits for accent, so sometimes it’s more of a boom-click.

Unzip the file. There will be two files BOOMWACK.W7P and BOOMWACK.W8P. Copy both of these files onto your SmartMedia TM card or USB storage device and load the pattern into your MOTIFES.
I also included a Pattern Chain included with this Pattern. Simply push CHAIN [F6] when in Pattern Mode and Push [EDIT] if you want to see how I put it together.
There’s nothing I love better than a solid straight groove, 8 th or 16 th based, with a good boom on the “down beat” and a big whack on beats two and four.
